2011 brought a lot of stuff that caught the attention of gaming community. At one point, we got a video game which broke all previous sales record in the history of entertainment industry while on the other hand, we also saw some serious hostility between gaming industry two heavyweights, “EA” and “Activision” (Duty Calls was one indication, click here to read). And then there were some blockbusting titles like Uncharted 3, Arkham City, Skyrim, etc, which gave quite a lot to diehard gamers.

Today, we will tell you some of the most hilarious media trails of different video games that took place in 2011. So fasten your seat belts and get ready for the laughs.

4. London Riots (August 2011) – Culprit: GTA

In August 2011, London witnessed one of the fiercest riots in British history. The riots started due to the killing of a local man by London Police. Britain was also facing some economic issues at that time, so this one incident became the reason for the people to unleash their fury. When everyone was clueless regarding the initiator of the madness, a “genius” constable found the culprit. He blamed the riots on GTA and boom, Media found a scapegoat. Some so-called “experts” started bashing GTA for all the chaos it created on the streets of London. Though the riots were controlled at-last, GTA remained in culprit’s chamber for quite some time.

3. Russian Airport Attack (January 2011) – Culprit: MW2

24th of January, 2011 was a tragic day not only for Russians but also for everyone else. A suicide bomber killed at least 35 people and injured above 80 at Russia’s busiest Airport, the Domodedovo International Airport. Instead of tracing the culprits behind them, the Russian Media got a simple solution; make Modern Warfare 2 the bad guy. Russia Today, the state sponsored satellite network, claimed that attack pattern of the killer was similar to the mission “No Russian” in MW2.

2. Norway Shootings (July 2011) – Cluprit: MW2

On July 22, 2011; a right-wing Christian Norwegian went on a shooting spree and killed more than 80 people, including children. The attack was said to be the deadliest attack since World War 2. The killer claimed that he liked Modern Warfare 2 and Warcraft and used MW2 as training simulation in his 1500 page manifesto. And honestly, that’s it. Media found the reason behind the attack. In-fact the bashing by media “experts” was so strong that retailers at Norway were forced to remove the copies of MW2 and Warcraft from the shelves. Once again, MW2 was held responsible for the crimes it didn’t commit.

1. Society weaknesses (February 2011) – Culprit: Bulletstorm

This one is the most hilarious of them all. A bunch of so-called “experts” planned to get together and start bashing Bulletstorm for society’s evils. So they got together at Fox News Studio and I guess it is easy to predict what happened next. They put literally every weakness of society on Bulletstorm. Click here to read the complete report.

So let’s hope 2012 proceeds without any game facing the wrath of the media, but the way things progressed in 2011, I guess the day is not far when we will hear that a personal diary of Hitler has been found in which he claimed that EA’s Command & Conquer was the reason of Poland’s invasion.
