Get ready comrades, the juggernaut is all set to arrive to make an everlasting impact. Mass Effect 3 is surely one of the most anticipated games of 2012 if not the most anticipated game (though I believe it is but lets just carry on with the diplomatic tone for the time being). But can this anticipation turn into some real “hardcore” cash (and I guess you know what I mean by the term “hardcore”)? And most importantly, can it beat EA’s arch-rival, Activision’s monster “Modern Warfare 3” in terms of $$$?
Well to be honest (and to be realist), that’s just a pipedream. Though I believe Mass Effect should get ahead in terms of sales (no disrespect to MW3 fans), it is just a fantasy; a fantasy with no base at all. Mass Effect 3 should beat the record of MW3 due to the following two reasons.
- It is good for the gaming industry.
- It rightfully deserves (that’s it, no diplomatic tone this time).
Mass Effect 2 vs. Modern Warfare 2
Mass Effect 2 was one of the most anticipated games of 2010, just like Mass Effect 3 is in present year. But comparing the sales record of Mass Effect 2 and Modern Warfare 2, the $$$ gap between them is quite wide. Modern Warfare 2, which was released a couple of months before Mass Effect 2, made $310 million on its release day (in US andUK only, source: msnbc). Mass Effect 2, on the other hand, made almost $120 million in first week of its launch (and that’s through sales worldwide, source: gamershell). The rest of the story is quite clear I guess.

Conclusion
The thing with Call of Duty is that it just sells irrespective of the content inside. Just a mention of COD and you can imagine a volcano erupting golden lava continuously. Even if it’s Call of Duty: Mafia Wars 3 (instead of Modern Warfare 3), it still would have made all those astonishing sales records (don’t get any wrong ideas Zynga). But one thing is pretty sure; EA is launching Game of the Year 2012 today. Though it’s quite early to say such a thing but I’m one-hundred percent certain about it.

| Good Bye Mr. Shepard |
On a side note: It is my humble request to all gamers out there that please, stop being such hypocrites. Activision will never give a damn if you keep cursing about their lack of creativity and, at the same time, give them a best selling COD title every year. It is due to us (gamers) that they are milking that one single franchise (and they will continue to do so as long as we are giving them a “clear indication” that we “love” COD titles). And by the way, no disrespect to COD lovers intended as it is totally fine if you like it. I’m talking about those who are always first in the line to buy a copy of the latest COD title and then think it is their religious obligation to curse it on every gaming website.
Let’s take a break and give a huge applause to Commander Shepard who is retiring after Mass Effect 3.
