If you are a claw-grip gamer and are looking for a weapon that can help you in your cause, say hello to Cooler Master Storm Spawn; one of the best in business specially designed for right-handed claw-style gamers.

CM Storm Spawn is equipped with a 3500dpi optical sensor with on-the-fly DPI adjustment feature. However, Cooler Master has somewhat missed the trick by neglecting custom DPI adjustment feature i.e. you can set the DPI to only three default levels which are 800dpi, 1800dpi, and 3500dpi. This is something that can really turn hardcore gamers away so let’s hope that later versions would solve this issue.

Like every other decent gaming mouse, Spawn also has a polling rate of 1000Hz (i.e. a response time of 1ms) and can be adjusted to four levels which are 125Hz, 250Hz, 500Hz, and 1000Hz.

7 programmable buttons let you store macros or other in-game functions that you can use to gain in-game advantage. Due to 32kb onboard memory, you can store only a single profile so if you are saving multiple profiles for different games, you have to load them each time you switch from one game to another. This could be a bit irritating but it is the only way. Most probably, you will get used to it.

Keep in mind (as mentioned above) that CM Storm Spawn has an optical sensor. Don’t get yourself confused with the technicalities of difference between laser sensor and optical sensor; laser sensor, theoretically, though have a slight advantage over optical one but practically, it’s negligible.

Remember that customization software is not included in the package so you have to go to Cooler Master Website and have to download it from there.

Design & Comfort

CM Storm Spawn is a hardcore claw-grip mouse so if you are one of those who are comfortable with palm grip, you might wanna consider other options. For those who are born to use claw-style mice, spawn is definitely the one to look for.

The mouse has an ergonomic right-handed claw-grip design so you are again in trouble if you are a lefty. Aside from that, the mouse is an excellent option, at least design-wise. With anti-slip rubberized grip on both sides, you’ll have a solid grip even after long hours of usage.

Since Spawn is a wired mouse, so length of cable is definitely a concern. But I guess 2m is enough to shun away any kind of worries. However, the cable is not braided which is somewhat a shame, especially when the connector is gold plated.

One feature that could be handy is weight adjustment. Sadly, Spawn doesn’t have this option but most probably you won’t need it anyway.

Overall, the built quality is great and the mouse will remain faithful for quite long. And if it doesn’t, one year warranty will keep things covered.

Price Tag

Considering the overall features and design, I guess the price tag is quite reasonable. For $60, this mouse can be all yours.
